Chandigarh, May 20, 2013, Specttrum News: Renowned author Vijay Singal released his latest book ‘Hinduism – From Maya to Moksha’ at Chandigarh Press Club here today. The book has been earlier launched by Lord Swaraj Paul at the House of Commons, London Parliament too. Writer of highly acclaimed coffee table books ‘Sparkling Punjab’ and ‘Ganga - A Divinity in Flow’ and many other books on spirituality and human psychology, Vijay Singal has presented the essence of Hinduism in a nutshell on an international level in his latest offering. With Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra giving a foreword to Vijay’s coffee table books, his work has been appreciated worldwide. The main reason behind launching the book in Chandigarh is the author’s roots which are in Punjab as Vijay Singal belongs to Malerkotla.
Quoting a brief note about the book, Mr Vijay Singal said, “This book is no ordinary work on Hinduism. It, in fact, is an academic study, done in a dispassionate and comprehensive manner, of an inclusive way of life, which has evolved along-with the evolution of mankind. It brings, to the doorstep of a common reader, the travails of the history, creative genius behind mythology, essence of philosophy, various means of spiritual attainment and utility or otherwise of practices of this most misunderstood and maligned religion. Both the strengths and weaknesses of this religion of eternity, Sanatan Dharma, have been flagged emphatically.”

“There are only few writers who are doing well to explore Indian culture, life and religion on a worldly platform and Vijay Singal is one of them. I enjoyed Mr Singal’s earlier work especially his earlier book ‘Sparkling Punjab’ and ‘Ganga - A divinity in Flow’ as they capture the cultural spirit of India,” were the words of Lord Swaraj Paul in appreciation of Mr Singal while honoring him at the London event last month. “I am impressed with the content of the book and think that this book is the need of the hour as the basic principles of the religion are forgotten by our young generation. They can learn essence of Hinduism in a nutshell from this book and can bring their life on right track which in result will improve the quality of their life”, he had added further.
Born in 1951 at Malerkotla, Punjab, VIJAY SINGAL is an engineer by training and a bureaucrat by choice. A 1976 Batch Indian Revenue Service officer, he held various positions with the Government of India over a period of 3 decades before retiring in 2010.
Widely travelled in India and abroad, Vijay Singal is a keen observer of human behavior. He initially started writing more than 20 years ago, starting off with penning down his thoughts on various issues of human behavior, happiness & contentment. As an administrator with the Government of India, he met hundreds of people, and varied kinds of situations. These became the corner stone of his observations. His first published work come in early 2003, with the publication of ‘Behind Psychology: Searching for the roots’ and then ‘Psyche of the common man’ in the year 2004.![]() |

His body of work over the new few years was published by Wisdom tree through a series of three small format 100 page books in the area of Self-help, Spirituality & human-God relationship.
In the year 2006, he also started working of a narration plus illustration (coffee table format) book on the river Ganga along with a Delhibased journalist & photographer, Atul Bhardwaj. Completed & published in 2008, ‘Ganga: A divinity in flow’ (ISBN: 978-81-905877-0-9, Retail price: INR 3000/-) is a one of its kind book on its theme.
Vijay’s most recent two projects are the closed to his heart. A narration plus illustration book on the state of Punjab, titled ‘Sparkling Punjab’ (ISBN: 978-81-905877-1-6, Retail price: INR 3200/-), written jointly with Atul Bhardwaj, captures the spirit of Punjab & Punjabis. A visual delight for almost everyone, it is a nostalgic journey down the memory lane for anyone who has lived and was brought up in the Punjabi heartland. As someone who hails from Punjab, lived his entire childhood & formative years there, he has truly enjoyed sharing the spirit of the state of Punjabthrough this book.
The other subject that he felt extremely strong about, and wanted to write about has resulted in his latest book – HINDUISM: From Maya To Moksha (ISBN: 978-81-905877-2-3, Retail price: INR 395/-)
In his own words, “I always had a feeling that this (Hinduism) oldest of the living world religions was the most maligned, often unjustifiably, increasingly by the vested interests. To examine the veracity or otherwise of this lurking doubt, I decided to work on the subject. So, I started glancing through whatever related material came my way. As my interest increased, I started serious study about this tradition of tolerance. Upon progressing a little further, a realization came to my mind that Hindu Thought, the key to harmonious growth of mankind, lying ignored in the backyard of my own heritage, must be made available to as many people as possible” and hence the book.
The book addresses the question as to ‘What is Hinduism?’ and its evolution and most importantly ‘What it could possibly stand for?’ especially in the current times.
When he wrote the book on Punjab, he loved being identified as the Punjabi who wrote the book on the state where he lived and grew up. With the book on Hinduism, he wants it otherwise. He wants the reader to read it not as a book by a Hindu on his religion but a book by a humanist on a religion that needs to be better understood. A religion that needs to be better understood for people to be able to live better.
